Event Category: The People's Markets
The Roseland People’s Market is a local festival built by the collaboration of Southsiders Organized for Unity and Liberation (SOUL), Burst Into Books, Contextos, Freedom Defense Center of Roseland, and A Midwest Movement Project. This collaboration is thrilled to invite vendors, including local growers, businesses, and public institutions, who share a commitment to expanding the community’s local food system.
Each People’s Market operates as a vehicle for the F.O.O.D. (Food Accessibility, Organic Choices, Ownership and Diversity) WEB, both a food justice campaign by SOUL to address food insecurity and a dynamic model for interconnected community partners promoting circular economy in Chicago’s far southside where the event is held.
The summer of 2025 has seen the success of four months of the Roseland People’s Markets located on South Michigan Avenue every last Sunday of the month and has connected networks of residents, organizations, growers, businesses, and public institutions under the FOOD WEB’s effort to build the area’s first community owned grocery store.
Join us in support of SOUL’s fight against food apartheid conditions!
